Meet our Coaches

Our coaches are at the heart of the Breakers Swim Team. They bring experience, enthusiasm and a passion for helping swimmers grow both in and out of the pool. From learning the fundamentals to chasing new personal bests, our coaching team works with swimmers at every stage to build confidence, develop skills and enjoy the sport of swimming.

Jeff Horseman

Breakers Head Coach

Lead Coach Masters & Gold

I’ve been part of the Breakers Swim Team for many years—as a swimmer, coach, and club leader. I swam with the Breakers for 13 years, competing at the Provincial level and specializing in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke. I’ve also spent 15 years coaching with the club and am excited to take on the role of Head Coach while continuing as Lead Gold Coach.

I coach because I want to help swimmers reach their highest potential, both in and out of the pool. I enjoy celebrating their successes, supporting them through challenges, and watching them grow in confidence.

For me, coaching is about more than swimming. It’s about helping young athletes become stronger, more confident people along the way.

Alysa Shewfelt

Lead Coach - Silver

I am excited to be entering my third season coaching with the Breakers Swim Team, where I will be coaching the Silver group this year. My swimming journey began as a ten year old with the Mississauga Aquatic Club, where I worked my way through the program and eventually earned a spot in the National Group. I later competed with the McMaster University Varsity Swim Team and was proud to serve as team captain in my third year. I enjoy coaching because I love sharing my passion for competitive swimming and helping swimmers develop their skills, confidence, and love for the sport.

Odessa Sicord

Assistant Coach - Silver

I’m entering my second year coaching competitive swimming with Breakers and am excited to be stepping into the role of Co-President.

My background is in fitness, nutrition, wellness, and leadership, with a Diploma in Fitness & Nutrition, Personal Trainer training, Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) training, and training as a Chef. I also bring three years of Vice-President experience with two swim clubs.

I believe in coaching the whole athlete—not just the swimmer. I love helping swimmers build confidence, develop healthy habits, and reach their potential both in and out of the pool.

My Journey - I've always loved the water. My competitive swimming journey started early with the North York Aquatic Club, and then continued with the Champion Athletic Club in Toronto until Grade 10 and then swam for my highschool. Throughout highschool and university I lifeguarded and taught swimming during the year and all summer. Shortly after moving to Port Elgin in 2012, I began coaching with the Saugeen Track and Field Club's middle distance high school group. I'm an avid Triathlete, training now for my 5th Half Ironman (70.3).

Why I Coach - I love working with youth and sharing my love for competitive sports and training.

Coaching this Season - I'm excited to be working with the Bronze group this year and look forward to meeting all the new swimmers and their families.

Jayson Horseman

Lead Coach - Mini-Breakers

This will be my third year coaching with the Breakers Swim Team and leading the Mini Breakers pre-competitive program. My journey with the Breakers began in 2011 when I joined the team as a swimmer, where I continued to compete until 2021. I have returned to swimming as a masters swimmer with the Breakers as well.

I have always enjoyed helping swimmers develop their technique, build confidence, and reach their goals. One of the most rewarding parts of coaching is watching swimmers learn, grow, and see the results of their hard work.

I am an NCCP Level 1 qualified coach and am currently working toward my Level 2 qualification. I look forward to continuing to develop as a coach while helping the next generation of Breakers swimmers grow and enjoy the sport.

Terry Smith

Assistant Coach - Silver & Bronze

I started coaching with the Breakers Team as a volunteer back in 2019 and then a full time coach in 2020. I enjoy teaching swimming fundamentals and watching my athletes become more confident and comfortable with their swims. As a youth I participated in my local swim team with my favourite swims being the 100 Breast and 200 back.

Erica DeVuono
